Here are some of the main attractions you shouldn’t miss:
Largo do Boticário
The most picturesque, charming spot in the neighborhood, Largo do Boticário is a small square surrounded by 19th-century colonial mansions. After years of abandonment, the area has been revitalized, and is now a popular setting for movies and TV shows.
Joe & Joe Hostel
Within Largo do Boticário itself, one of the historic residences has been converted into Joe & Joe Hostel. This excellent accommodation option combines historic charm with modern design and spacious areas. Even non-guests can enjoy the facilities. The breakfast buffet, open to non-guests, costs R$ 55 and is a great way to start the day. Additionally, the space offers lunch and poolside parties, providing a vibrant and relaxed experience for both tourists and locals.
Casa Roberto Marinho
The former residence of journalist and businessman Roberto Marinho is now an unmissable cultural center. The house’s collection is filled with works by important Brazilian painters such as José Pancetti, Di Cavalcanti, and Candido Portinari, offering an excellent opportunity to learn more about great Brazilian artists. The outdoor area features pleasant gardens and a café surrounded by nature, where you can relax and enjoy the tranquility of the environment.
Café Capitu
Located in the former house of Machado de Assis, Café Capitu is a place that combines history, literature, and gastronomy. If you have read the most popular books by Machado de Assis, you will recognize the characters on the menu. How about enjoying a “Brunch Dom Casmurro”? With décor that pays homage to the celebrated Brazilian writer, the café is a perfect spot to relax, read a good book, and enjoy a delicious coffee.
